The Pentax Spotmatic SP is a classic 35mm single lens reflex film camera that was introduced by Asahi Pentax in the early 1960s. Known for being one of the first cameras to offer through-the-lens (TTL) metering, it revolutionized the industry. This camera was designed to accept M42 screw mount lenses, offering the flexibility to choose from a wide range of lenses, including the renowned Pentax Takumar lenses and other M42 mount lenses from different manufacturers.
The Spotmatic SP operates with a fully mechanical shutter, offering speeds from one second to 1/1,000th, along with a bulb mode for long-exposure photography. The built-in light meter, which uses a simple plus and minus scale, is powered by a single 387s 1.55 volt battery. The light meter reads the light passing through the lens and hitting the focusing screen, providing a center-weighted pattern reading for accurate exposure settings. Notably, the camera does not have a hot shoe.
